Jalan masih panjang

Jalan ternyata masih panjang. Entah sampai sejauh mana.

Kadang kita terlalu banyak berpikir. Stop worrying, and start walking. Let’s jump with two feet in the water.

These little town blues, are melting away
I’ll make a brand new start of it – in old new york
If I can make it there, I’ll make it anywhere
It’s up to you – new york, new york

– Frank Sinatra – New York, New York.

Okay, jangan biarkan beberapa kegagalan mendefinisikan hidupmu. Berjalan dengan kepala tegak, badan membusung, mencari jalan lain yang terbuka. Sedikit berputar tak apa, asal tak macet saja. Read the rest of this entry

Damn you, Eric S Raymond!

Well, let me introduce you to Eric S Raymond, he is prominent speaker for Open Source Movement. His book, Cathedral and The Bazaar, is a must-read for Open Source enthusiast and hacker. His roles in Open Source movement are as historian and ambassador.

For me, his most engaging article he ever written is How To Become A Hacker. The term hacker in this case is closer to Linus Tovalds, rather than Kevin Mitnicks. Hacker in this case is problem solver. Able geniuses that trying the best to solve the hardest and most interesting problem in the world. People that collaborate, learning, and sharing knowledge to everyone that care. People with passion and excellence in everything they do.

And that comes the reason why I hate him. You know, for now, everything in my life is in steady, and very much stable. I make good money, not much, but enough. I am happy with my situation, solving business problem with software engineering, learning to understand business domain, learning new .NET technology. Handling some annoying user but still tolerable. In the end, I have a dream to dwell deeper in IT Management by taking Master Degree in that fields. All change when  I read his article “How to become a hacker”. Read the rest of this entry

How to get date in T-SQL?

From Internet Forum when I browse about SQL:

Another interpretation of the question, “How to get a date in T-SQL?”:

Find out what your database’s interests are, and talk animatedly about them.

Use subtle flattery, “Wow, that’s a really nice stored procedure you got there.”

Don’t overemphasize or show too much interest in physical hardware and specs, most databases consider that shallow and sexist.

Remember that each database is unique, what works well for one may be a total disaster for another.

Always listen. CPU utilization might only be 7%, but that might be a problem for some databases. Be empathetic.

Don’t assume that because everything goes well at first that you’ll be granted full permissions to every part of the database. Work your way up to it, and enjoy the journey. Your database will appreciate the attention.

…and always remember, GetDate() will get you a date, but it may not turn out exactly the way you want it.

Pelajaran dari program Buy America

Jika kita bicara soal negara maju superpower, maka kita akan teringat satu nama, Amerika Serikat. Baru-baru ini pemerintahan Obama meluncurkan program Buy America, sebuah program yang dirancang untuk merangsang perekonomian AS menjadi lebih sehat, dengan memaksa warga AS, dan perusahaan di AS membeli barang2 dari AS sendiri, dan harus 100% AS.

Okay, sure things. Ini akan membuat ekonomi AS maju kan? Ini bisa menciptakan lapangan kerja, dan mendorong ekonomi AS pulih dari krisis dengan cepat? Read the rest of this entry

PLN: listrik untuk kehidupan yang lebih baik?

Ada 3 hal yang mengilhami tulisan ini:

1. Tiba-tiba ada undangan grup FB: sejuta facebookers prihatin PLN (or something)

2. Tulisan manusia super tentang PLN.

Kenapa kinerja PLN begitu buruknya? Read the rest of this entry
